Journal History & Milestones
2019 – Journal Establishment
The International Journal of Arabic Language Teaching (IJALT) was officially established and published its inaugural issue under the Postgraduate Program of Institut Agama Islam Negeri (IAIN) Metro, Indonesia. The journal was founded to provide an international scholarly platform for research dissemination in Arabic teaching and Arabic linguistic and literature written in English or Arabic.
2020 – Strengthening Editorial Standards and Indexation
IJALT implemented significant improvements in editorial policies and publishing practices, including the enhancement of double-blind peer-review procedures, publication ethics compliance, DOI registration through Crossref, plagiarism screening policies, and expansion of abstracting and indexing coverage.
2021 – National Accreditation Achievement
IJALT successfully obtained its first national accreditation from the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology of the Republic of Indonesia through the Science and Technology Index (SINTA) in SINTA 4. This achievement marked an important milestone in strengthening the journal's academic quality assurance and editorial governance.
2022 – Publication Capacity Expansion to Ten Articles per Issue and Expansion of International Visibility
Beginning with Volume 4, Number 1 (2024), IJALT increased its publication capacity to ten articles per issue. This strategic adjustment was implemented in response to the growing number of high-quality submissions while maintaining rigorous double-blind peer-review standards, editorial selectivity, and publication quality assurance mechanisms. In this year also, IJALT is attempting to get indexed in Scopus, but there are still seven notes from Scopus requiring the IJALT journal to resubmit in 2024.
2023 – Editorial Internationalization and Quality Enhancement
IJALT strengthened its internationalization strategy by expanding the editorial board, reviewer network, and global scholarly collaboration. Additional measures were implemented to improve editorial efficiency, publication quality, and international academic engagement.
2024 – Consolidation of Academic Impact and International Reach
IJALT continued strengthening its scholarly impact through increased international contributions, enhanced editorial management performance, expanded reviewer participation, and improved citation performance indicators. The journal further reinforced its commitment to publishing high-quality and impactful research in Arabic teaching and related disciplines.
2025 – Publication Capacity Expansion to Ten Articles per Issue and Expansion of International Visibility
Beginning with Volume 7, Number 1 (2025), IJALT increased its publication capacity to twelve articles per issue. This strategic adjustment was implemented in response to the growing number of high-quality submissions while maintaining rigorous double-blind peer-review standards, editorial selectivity, and publication quality assurance mechanisms
As part of its long-term internationalization strategy and commitment to scholarly excellence. This policy was adopted following comprehensive evaluation of editorial performance indicators, increasing international manuscript submissions, enhanced reviewer capacity, improved editorial workflow efficiency, and the growing number of manuscripts successfully passing rigorous peer-review and editorial evaluation processes. The expansion reflects IJALT's commitment to facilitating broader scholarly participation and strengthening its contribution to international academic communication without compromising publication quality, editorial independence, or research integrity standards.
2026 – Preparing for Reaccreditation of National Accreditation Achievement
The International Journal of Arabic Language Teaching (IJALT) is committed to strengthening its academic quality, editorial professionalism, and international visibility in preparation for national journal reaccreditation. The journal also aims to ensure that at least 80% of published articles come from authors outside the publisher’s institution, expand international scholarly collaboration, increase annual external citations by at least 15%, and achieve an internal reaccreditation self-assessment score of at least 85/100.
These targets will be supported by continuous editorial evaluation, transparent review procedures, stronger research integrity policies, improved website accessibility and indexing, complete publication documentation, and regular monitoring of key performance indicators. Through these strategic and measurable improvements, IJALT aims to secure a higher national accreditation standing and establish itself as a credible, sustainable, and internationally recognised platform for high-quality research in Arabic language teaching, linguistic and literature.
Future Directions
IJALT remains committed to strengthening its international academic reputation through continuous quality improvement, broader international collaboration, enhanced scholarly impact, increased global visibility, and adherence to internationally recognized standards of scholarly publishing and research integrity.
