Abstract

Advancements in artificial intelligence (AI) have enabled the automation of capabilities previously considered uniquely human such as information management, problem-solving, and creative production. This study aims to analyze the concept of human nature within the thought of Murtadha Muthahhari, identify philosophical issues arising from AI development, and explain their relevance to the human position in the AI era. The research employs a qualitative method utilizing a literature review and a philosophical approach. The primary source is Murtadha Muthahhari’s work, The Perfect Man, supplemented by books and scholarly articles concerning the philosophy of the human being, AI, and the ethics of technology. The findings reveal that the human being is a multidimensional entity possessing intellect, innate nature fitrah, freedom, moral responsibility, self-awareness, spirituality, and an orientation toward perfection. Although AI can perform cognitive functions, these capabilities do not render it identical to the human being as an existential and moral subject. The concepts of ma‘rifat al-nafs (self-knowledge) and jihad al-nafs (struggle against the self) underscore the importance of consciousness and self-control. In conclusion, AI is best understood as an instrument that extends human capabilities rather than a substitute for human nature.
