Women’s Economic Empowerment and Divorce Prevention in Bandar Lampung: A Mubādalah Perspective

This study examines women’s economic empowerment in families in Bandar Lampung and its contribution to family resilience and divorce prevention from a mubādalah perspective. Using a descriptive qualitative design with an empirical-juridical approach, data were obtained from interviews with eight economically active women and a local women’s empowerment official, supported by relevant literature, legislation, and institutional documents. The findings show that empowerment occurs through home-based businesses, employment, skills training, financial literacy, digital capabilities, and access to capital. Women’s income helps meet household needs, including food, education, health, and debt management, while increasing confidence and participation in family decision-making. However, economic empowerment does not automatically produce gender equality. When domestic and care responsibilities remain concentrated on women, it may create a double burden. From a mubādalah perspective, women’s economic contribution should be recognized as a shared family resource while maintaining the husband’s responsibility for family maintenance. The study proposes reciprocal empowerment, supported by deliberation, financial transparency, and shared domestic responsibilities, as a pathway to strengthen family resilience and prevent divorce.
