Abstract

This study examines how the authority of a mufassir is constructed and maintained in the digital space through critical discourse analysis of Qur'anic interpretation on the YouTube channel Adi Hidayat Official. The emergence of digital platforms has significantly transformed the landscape of Qur'anic. This study aims to analyze the discursive strategies employed by Adi Hidayat in building, sustaining, and asserting his authority as a mufassir within digital spaces. Using a qualitative approach and Norman Fairclough's three-dimensional critical discourse analysis model encompassing text, discursive practice, and socio-cultural practice the study analyzed ten purposively selected tafsir videos from the Adi Hidayat Official YouTube channel during the 2020-2024 period. The findings indicate that Adi Hidayat’s authority as a mufassir is constructed through four interconnected discursive strategies These four findings are synthesized into a new theoretical framework termed the Digital Mufassir Authority Construction Model, which simultaneously operates across epistemic, semiotic, social, and techno-material dimensions. The study concludes that the pluralization of religious authority in the digital sphere does not erase classical Islamic scholarly hierarchies but rather superimposes a new layer of capital algorithmic literacy upon them.
