DARI DISKUSI KE AKSI: MODERASI BERAGAMA EKOLOGIS DI BANK SAMPAH CANGKIR HIJAU KOTA METRO

Abstract

This study analyzes ecological religious moderation in the collaboration of lecturers and students through the Cangkir Hijau Waste Bank in Metro City, Indonesia. It addresses a gap in religious moderation studies that often emphasize interreligious relations while giving limited attention to environmental responsibility as a public expression of faith. A descriptive qualitative case study was conducted from May to September 2018. Data were obtained purposively from fifteen informants through semi-structured and in-depth interviews, documentation, and source triangulation, and were analyzed through data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings show that a routine discussion forum evolved into a community waste bank combining physical actions - waste saving, sorting, selling, and recycling crafts - with nonphysical actions through education and environmental campaigns. These practices express balance, fairness, deliberation, social benefit, and restraint from wastefulness. The waste bank also reported 53 active accounts, a total saving value of IDR 99,376,780, and growing household participation. The study concludes that ecological religious moderation becomes socially meaningful when religious knowledge is translated into collaborative, inclusive, and measurable environmental action.
